Description

This Air Fryer Whole Chicken recipe contains only seven ingredients and yields the most flavorful chicken with juicy meat and crispy skin! Cooking a whole chicken in the air fryer is a sure way to prevent dryness and yield a super tender chicken. It’s an unbelievably easy recipe and perfect for lunch, weeknight dinners, and beyond!

Ingredients

  • 1 (4-5 lb) whole chicken, giblets removed
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons Creole Cajun Seasoning– homemade or store-bought
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons Herbs de Provence
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • Lemon wedges, for squeezing- optional

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel- do this very well to ensure crispy chicken skin! In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, Creole Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, Herbs de Provence, and smoked paprika. Whisk the seasonings to combine, and then add the oil and whisk until well combined.
  2. Place the chicken onto a cutting board and pour the seasoning marinade over the chicken. Use your hands (fitted with disposable gloves if desired) to massage the marinade all over the chicken, be sure to get inside the cavity and under the skin as well, ensuring every inch of the chicken is lathered nicely.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 360°F. Place the chicken into the air fryer basket breast-side down. Air fry the chicken for 30 minutes. Then flip the chicken to the breast-side up and continue cooking for another 20-25 minutes; or until the chicken registers at least 165°F when checked with an internal thermometer.
  4. After air frying, place the chicken onto a clean cutting board and let it rest for at least 15 minutes before cutting into it. Then cut the chicken as desired and place it on a serving platter- feel free to spoon some of the drippings in the air fryer basket over the chicken. Serve immediately alongside lemon wedges for squeezing, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. Air fryer notes: I have a 6 quart air fryer and a 4-5 pound whole chicken fits perfectly. If you have a smaller air fryer it’s possible to cook a whole chicken of this size if your appliance has a removable grate (the basket itself) to give it more room. The chicken should fit comfortably with enough space and not touch the element/roof when inside of the air fryer.
