Nobody, and I mean nobody, loves a good bowl-style meal more than I. Between my salmon rice bowls, these fire harissa chicken bowls, and my hibachi steak bowls…I don’t know which one I make more, ha. Listen, when I tell you that these burger bowls are giving the others a run for their money, whew.

These bowls are a nice little weeknight-friendly lunch or dinner, and also a fun meal-prep situation to enjoy! Whether it’s just for adults or you plan on serving the kiddos, too…these burger bowls are so dang delicious ♡.

Homemade Burger Bowls 🍔

Okay so boom, think of these burger bowls as a deconstructed burger without the bun. Yes indeed, all the things we enjoy in a traditional burger, but broken down to devour in bowl form. Just like you would pick up a burger, with these burger bowls, you’ll grab a fork and dig into the same beefy goodness.

However, these bowls are made complete with sweet potato fries laced with Cajun seasoning (I could weep over those alone- they’re hella bomb!), and then everything is smothered in my homemade chipotle ranch! Gah! The juicy ground beef meets the sweetness of the fries meets the subtle spiciness of the ranch…this recipe is giving your palate a little bit of everything ⚡️.

Description

These delicious Burger Bowls are such an incredibly easy meal that makes for the perfect weeknight delight. Made complete with sweet potato fries and lip-smacking, creamy chipotle ranch! Serve the bowls with crisp iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, sliced red onion, and chopped avocado to make the bowls extra filling!

Ingredients

For the chipotle ranch:

  • ½ cup sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup buttermilk
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoons Sazon seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • Kosher salt & fresh ground black pepper- to taste

For the burger meat & bowl assembly:

  • 3 medium sweet potatoes, cleaned (pat dry) & sliced into wedges
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 ½ tablespoons Creole Cajun Seasoning– homemade or store-bought, divided
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ medium yellow onion, diced
  • ⅓ cup beef broth (or water as sub)
  • For bowl assembly: Chopped romaine lettuce, halved cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, hamburger dill chips, and sliced avocado- as desired

Instructions

  1. For the chipotle ranch: In the body of a high-speed blender or food processor, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, buttermilk, chipotle peppers, garlic paste, Sazon seasoning, parsley, and salt/pepper- to taste. Blitz the mixture until well combined and smooth. Then transfer the chipotle ranch to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper, and then top with a fitted wire rack.
  3. Prep the potato wedges. In a large bowl, combine the sweet potato wedges, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and Cajun seasoning. Use your hands (fitted with disposable gloves if desired) to toss everything until the wedges are fully coated. Then arrange the sweet potato wedges on the prepared baking sheet fitted with a wire rack.
  4. Bake the sweet potato wedges at 425°F for 40 minutes or until the wedges are fork-tender and crispy. Meanwhile, prep the burger meat below.
  5. Make the burger meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon olive oil. When hot, add the ground beef and use a wooden utensil to break it up, cooking until browned. Then add the onion and continue cooking the mixture until the onion is translucent and tender, about 3-4 minutes. Season the mixture with the remaining 1 ½ tablespoons Cajun seasoning and stir well to combine. Then add the beef broth and turn off the heat. Stir the broth to combine and let the mixture simmer in the residual heat until most of the liquid is absorbed. The beef mixture should be extra moist.
  6. Bowl assembly & serving. Start by adding the romaine lettuce + baked sweet potato wedges to your serving bowls, then add the other toppings and cooked ground beef. Then drizzle the chipotle ranch over everything. Enjoy!
