Few things are finer than starting the weekend off with a delightful cocktail. As the young ones say, I’ve entered my cocktail era, ha! Seriously, I must’ve spent at least an hour the other day perusing my local liquor store. Aisle upon aisle of literally every spirit and wine and mixer imaginable- real talk, how does one decide?! Anyways, this coconut lime margarita, I love it so very much.
Creamy Coconut Lime Margarita 🥥
Y’all, when it comes to drinks, I like mines to lean on flavor and not strength. Now, I know some might be the opposite and that’s okay. Plus, I love a cocktail that gives dessert in a glass, too. This 5-ingredient creamy coconut lime margarita tastes like a slice of key lime pie! Mmmm. It has a lush mouthfeel thanks to coconut cream and is so refreshing, fully obsessed with this one.
⇢ Just like my coquito cocktail or this sorrel tea (my fave!), this drink is all about flavors that compliment each other. And my guava tequila sour, too! ♡
Ingredients Needed For This Cocktail
(Note: the full ingredients list, including measurements, is provided in the recipe card directly below.)
- Tequila: I use blanco (silver) tequila for this coconut lime margarita.
- Coconut cream: This ingredient gives the cocktail so much depth and coconut-y goodness, friends. It’s different from coconut milk in that it has a much higher fat content as it is thicker and much more richer.
- Lime juice: Freshly squeezed, always, for the very best cocktails!
- Cointreau: This is a clear liqueur that has a high concentration from orange essence. It’s more fresh, balanced, and depth-filled as opposed to triple sec.
- Agave: The sweetener of choice, and amps up the agave notes within the tequila. However, you can surely use simple syrup as well!
How To Make This Creamy Coconut Lime Margarita Recipe:
(Note: please see the recipe card directly below for the complete written instructions.)
- Prep the glass. On a small plate, combine equal parts sugar, salt, and lime zest and spread out in an even layer. Run a lime wedge around the rim or side of the cocktail glass. Hold the base of the glass and dip the rim or side into the mixture. Then place the glass into the freezer to chill until ready to use. *Of course, decorating your glass is optional, but oh so aesthetically-fun!
- Make cocktail. When ready to serve, fill the cocktail glass with ice and set aside. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the tequila, coconut cream, fresh lime juice, Cointreau, and agave (or simple syrup). Cover the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain cocktail into the prepared ice-filled glass. Garnish coconut lime margarita with lime wedge/slice, if desired. Enjoy! Sip, sip..hooray 🙌🏾.
Make This Coconut Lime Margarita Into A Mocktail Situation
This creamy coconut lime cocktail can easily be made alcohol-free for my non-alcoholic peeps. Use a non-alcoholic tequila (we love Ritual zero proof!), and to replace the Cointreau, you can use orange extract, orange juice, or orange-flavored still or bubbly water. Love me a good mocktail as well!
Tips + Tricks For Recipe Success
Here’s some extra info to ensure you have a perfect coconut lime margarita:
- Use coconut cream– Y’all, this ingredient right here is what makes this cocktail have the creamiest of texture and body. Cream (instead of milk) is highly unmatched, there’s no creaminess without it. A close alternative that I would recommend is cream of coconut (I use the Coco Lopez brand).
- Chill the glass– A frosted glass just adds a little oomph to this cocktail moment. Like a good slice of key lime pie, it’s better chilled. Even with the cocktail being poured over ice, a frosty glass will keep your ice from melting too quickly. Placing it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes before serving is all that’s needed! I promise, this added step is worth it!
- Scale the recipe– Entertaining or wanna make more than 1 cocktail? This creamy coconut margarita can be scaled to serve more than 1 person! 😎
This Creamy Coconut Lime Margarita is a true showstopper with its extra lush self. It’s so refreshing and delicious! Be sure to tag @butterbeready in your BBR recipe creations, I sure love to see it when you do. Until next time! 🤟🏾
