Chillaxing on the patio with this drink, yes please.
Guava Tequila Sour 🌴
Have you ever had a sour cocktail before? They are one of the staples among the cocktail family. A sour is made up of liquor, citrus, and a type of sweetener. Guava adds a nice tropical vibe to bring this sour together, it’s a household favorite! It’s light and refreshing while packing big flavor, yum. Additionally, this drink has a creamy, frothy foam topping to elevate and provide a contrast in texture. Listen, grab yourself a cocktail glass and let’s dive in already!

DISCLOSURE: This post is sponsored by Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs who I’m always so hype to partner with; all thoughts expressed here are my own. I’ve been a brand ambassador with them for some time now and love using their high-quality USDA Certified Organic eggs from free-range hens.
Their eggs come from small family farmers who raise their hens on farms where the hens are free to roam about in the sunshine. You’ll also find their gold standard eggs to be Certified Humane and contain no antibiotics, hormones, or pesticides. Truly the best quality eggs for BBR recipes that I feel good about!
Egg White Cocktails ☁️
Yes indeed, egg white cocktails are some of the best out there! You might be thinking: Why add an egg white? ⇢ Egg whites add a lovely, creamy head to a variety of cocktails. Furthermore, because this is a sour cocktail, an egg white is used to tone down the citrusy zing of lemon here. It elevates the overall flavor profile by making it richer and providing some depth, too. Like the clover club!
- It’s important to use a high quality egg here since the egg white won’t be cooked. I highly recommend Pete and Gerry’s; they even offer pasteurized liquid egg whites, which are a great option for any egg white cocktail.
Guava Tequila Sour Ingredients
(Note: the full ingredients list, including measurements, is provided in the recipe card directly below.)
- Tequila: I use blanco (silver) tequila for this guava tequila sour.
- Guava nectar: Use any guava nectar (juice) for this recipe.
- Coconut rum: Adds another tropical note here, so good.
- Lemon juice: freshly squeezed for all the citrusy goodness!
- Agave: to provide sweetness, simple syrup or honey work as well.
- Egg white: A real egg white from a freshly cracked egg for that beautiful foamy topping. Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs…top tier eggies 👌🏾

(Note: please see the recipe card directly below for the complete written instructions.)
This guava tequila sour comes together in a pinch, leggo!
- Add the tequila, guava nectar, coconut rum, lemon juice, agave, and egg white into a cocktail shaker or mason jar. Cover and vigorously shake all the ingredients together for a few seconds, this is considered a dry shake.
- Then add a handful of ice into the shaker/jar. Cover again and then shake vigorously for another few seconds, this is considered a wet shake.
- Strain the guava tequila sour into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an edible flower, if desired. Go sit down somewhere, kick ya feet up, and enjoy!
Must-Have Cocktail Equipment
- Cocktail shaker: love this one with a leak-proof seal!
- Mason jar with lid: this is handy if you do not have a cocktail shaker.
- Fine strainer: As shown in images, it’s clutch for the smoothest drinks!
- Cocktail glasses: Fun cocktail glasses for serving, yay.
Egg Replacement For This Cocktail?
Do you wanna make this guava tequila sour, but vegan? I got you! You can still create that fun, cloud-like topping using chickpea liquid, aka aquafaba.
It’s another emulsifying agent that can achieve what traditional egg whites in cocktails do for gin fizzes and sours. For aquafaba, I recommend about 2 tablespoons of the chickpea liquid to replace the egg white.
Dry Shake vs. Wet Shake: Cocktail 101
When making cocktails, there are ✌🏾 known shake-style methods, a dry shake and a wet shake. For example, a dry shake is combining all the ingredients (w/o ice) into the shaker first. Shaking the liquid items on their own allow for the ingredients to emulsify creating deeper aeration without being diluted.
Then, when adding in the ice for the wet shake, it cools down the finished cocktail. The wet shake also intensifies + strengthens the egg white.
Make This Guava Tequila Sour Into A Mocktail
This guava cocktail can easily be made alcohol-free for my non-alcoholic friends. Simply replace the alcohol measurements with equal parts of your favorite NA spirits. Alternatively, flavored sparkling soda or sparkling water works: topo chico, la croix, etc. Love me a good mocktail as well!
Fine-Straining Cocktails
This is a best practice when making a shaken cocktail, especially a sour. Straining a cocktail is needed to remove the ice shards and any lemon pulp. Also, straining ensures a smooth, even texture with your egg white and finished drink.
Y’all, give this guava tequila sour a whirl and do report back! It’s the perfect drink to make for entertaining at the crib, date night-in with your boo thang, or just because you deserve. This cocktail, whew. Guava tings forever and ever!
You will love this Guava Tequila Sour, peeps. It’s so good and tastes like you’ve been transported to the islands, ha! Be sure to tag @butterbeready in your BBR recipe creations, I sure love to see it when you do. Until next time! 🤟🏾
