Easy Sausage and Peppers Recipe
This super easy Sausage and Peppers recipe is sooo good and screams low-effort, high-reward. Sautéed bell peppers and onions with hunks of juicy sausage and extra flavor from Italian seasoning and garlic. Serve with steamed rice for a perfect meal!

Have you ever been so accustomed to making a specific thing that it just becomes second nature? And maybe you even think it’s nothing special, just a routine habit that you’ve done for years. That was me so I thought, when I casually shared on my Instagram stories that I was making sausage and peppers one night.
Long story very short, I have never seen so many dm’s in my inbox, ha! People were asking me how I cooked it, where they could find my recipe…so on and so forth. I’ve been cooking sausage and peppers for so long and it never really occurred to me to make it a “blog-worthy” recipe. It’s so easy and I didn’t think it would be so popular. However, what comes easily to some may not for others, right? So yeah, let’s begin!

There are so many sausage and peppers recipes floating around the web but this is my take on this Italian favorite. I love the ease + simplicity of it all. Additionally, I love the minimal prep work and how it all comes together in ONE PAN! Plus very few ingredients and no fuss make it a great weeknight staple. Trust me, I make this recipe at least 2-3x a month in my house. It’s a recipe that everyone is happy to have in rotation.

How To Make This Sausage and Peppers Recipe:
(Note: please see the recipe card directly below for the complete written instructions.)
- In a large skillet, melt butter/olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Then sauté bell peppers and onions together until soft, tender, and slightly caramelized.
- Add in sausage rounds and continue cooking until golden brown.
- Lastly, add minced garlic and seasonings.

What Kind Of Sausage To Use?
Literally, any kind of sausage that you prefer! Use smoked sausage, Italian sausage, kielbasa sausage, andouille sausage, and even chorizo sausage! They all work perfectly in this recipe. Just make sure it’s the pre-cooked kind of sausage that you just heat up and not fresh sausage. Most grocery stores will sell commonly found pre-cooked sausage from brands like Hillshire Farm, Johnsonville, and Aidells.

Ways To Serve Up Sausage and Peppers:
I almost always serve mine with steamed white rice and it never gets old! This recipe just goes so well with rice to make a complete meal. However, other ways to enjoy this recipe include:
- Hoagie Rolls: make it a sandwich situation + serve up on a nice soft and toasted hoagie!
- Broccoli: vegetables work great for a low-carb option.
- Pasta: add it to your favorite kind of pasta or egg noodles.
- Side Salad: another great healthier side option!
- Creamy Risotto: make it super fancy and make some risotto.
- Garlic Bread: sausage and peppers would be amazing with garlic bread!

And that’s that on that, y’all! I hope you love this Sausage and Peppers recipe for weeknights and beyond. Be sure to tag @butterbeready in your BBR recipe creations, I sure love to see it when you do. Until next time! 🤟🏾

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 1 large white onion, sliced into half-moons
- 12–13 ounce sausage links, sliced on a bias into rounds
- 8 cloves garlic, finely minced (or 1 tablespoon jarred minced garlic)
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning or herbs de provence
- Kosher salt & fresh ground black pepper, to taste
- Steamed white rice or rice of choice, for serving- optional

- Next, add the minced garlic, Italian seasoning/herbs de provence, and salt/pepper- to taste and stir well to combine. Continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes until everything melds nicely.
- Garnish the dish with fresh chopped parsley. Serve the sausage and peppers immediately on top of steamed rice, if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
- Sausage and peppers will keep for 3-4 days stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Delicious and easy! We added Sriracha for a lil kick! Thank you!
How large a skillet may i ask? I used a 4 inch deep frying pan and it filled up really quick with the peppers and onion then when i added the sausage it was full , so it took longer to cook, i am not sure what i did wrong, but the sausages took ages to brown they were boiling it was more like a stew as i put in a good bit of butter. I am cooking it now for almost one hour and i am not sure even if the sausage is cooked yet over medium heat on stovetop, I know i am not cook but i thought this would be easy enough to try. I hope i will understand it better next time.
Hi there- I recommend a skillet that is 10-11 inches…also, for this recipe you’re using pre-cooked sausage like andouille or beef kielbasa so you’re only aiming to brown the sausage that is already pre-cooked. Hope this helps! 🙂
I made this and it was absolutely delicious, In fact I am making it again for dinner tonight. It is part of my regular rotation. I work full time and am also a caregiver to my husband, so anything that I can prepare that is quick to come together with a few ingredients and is as delicious as this, is right up my alley. Thank you for such a good recipe. I will be making more of your recipes in the near future
Absolutely delish. Easy to make and requires very little prep or dishes.Â
After cooking can I freeze it and how many servings does this recipe  serve
Hi there- This recipe serves about 4…& you can freeze leftovers in an airtight container. To thaw, simply refrigerate overnight 🙂
Tasty and easy. I think I will be able to make this at my Airbnb in Mexico, which only has a stovetop, no oven. Thanks, Quin
Very tasty. No more frying my sausage and peppers in vegetable oil. The olive oil and butter made it so much better.
I’m making this again today but I’m using raw Italian sausage that I’m going to cook first then slice up.. it’s all I had.. wish me luck
