Happy summer solstice to all who celebrate! ☀️

I’ve been loving burgers as of late and have struck gold with these blue cheese turkey burgers, y’all. In my opinion, blue cheese gets a ton of unnecessary hate for no reason. There ain’t a cheese in the world quite like the blue cheese. Listen, idc idc, it’s one of the best. I love the infusion of its goodness in the mix with these burgers, gah.

Blue Cheese Turkey Burgers

You’ll appreciate how fresh, light, and flavorful these turkey burgers are. For starters, the leanness that ground turkey provides pairs well with the richness found in other elements. A simple blend of a few spices adds some flair and extra depth to amp up the savoriness, too!

  • Spices: We’ll use Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and salt/pepper.
  • Dijon mustard: Just a touch for a bit of tang.
  • Breadcrumbs: Plain panko breadcrumbs to help shape them.
  • Worcestershire sauce: This umami bomb condiment, chefs kiss.
  • Parsley: A little pop of an herbaceous note.

How To Make These Blue Cheese Turkey Burgers:

(Note: please see the recipe card directly below for the complete written instructions.)

  1. Combine turkey burger ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, combine the turkey burger ingredients. Use your hands to work the mixture until just combined. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit for at least 20 minutes for the flavors to meld.
  2. Shape burgers. Shape the mixture into 6 burger patties and set the patties aside on a foil/parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  3. Cook ’em up. Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Then coat the pan with oil. Working in batches, gently place the patties into the hot skillet and cook until the patties achieve a nice, browned sear on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Golden, Juicy Perfection! 😍

I love how the blue cheese crumbles blend in the burgers and get all melty, whew. These burgers are just so flavorful and scrumptious, but we ain’t stopping there! Nah.

→ Toast up your burger buns with butter, then smear caramelized onion jam on each side of the buns. Add the blue cheese turkey patty and finish the burger assembly with lettuce and a tomato slice. Grab hold and enjoy- yummmm! The caramelized onion jam is pure magic with these burgers, peeps!

Tips + Tricks & More:

  • Ground meat sub? Feel free to use ground chicken in place of ground turkey if you’d like.
  • What if I don’t like blue cheese? Use crumbled feta cheese, boo.
  • Don’t overwork the meat. To prevent a tough/dense texture, only work the meat mixture until just combined.
  • Make sure your pan is hot! You want to ensure the turkey burgers get a quality sear. As such, heat your pan for about 3-4 minutes over medium-high heat until it’s nice and hot. Then coat the pan with oil.
  • Caramelized onion jam: I use store-bought caramelized onion jam that’s readily available in grocery stores. If you’re up for it, make a batch of my homemade caramelized onions, which work beautifully here as well!
  • Don’t want to use buns? Assemble your blue cheese turkey burgers, lettuce burger-style.

Description

These Blue Cheese Turkey Burgers are so incredibly juicy and brimming with flavor. Fresh blue cheese crumbles are infused within the turkey burger meat with spices, and then topped with caramelized onion jam. The flavors are drool-worthy, and these burgers whip up in a flash with a simple sear on the stovetop!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground turkey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Creole Cajun Seasoning– homemade or store-bought
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt & fresh ground black pepper- to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • ⅓ cup plain panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • ¾ cup blue cheese crumbles
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil (or olive oil), for cooking

For burger assembly:

  • 6 brioche burger buns (or buns of choice)
  • Butter, for toasting buns
  • Caramelized onion jam, store-bought
  • Lettuce & sliced tomatoes

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, egg, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, salt/pepper to taste, dijon mustard, breadcrumbs, worcestershire sauce, parsley, and blue cheese crumbles. Use your hands (fitted with disposable gloves if desired) to work the mixture until just combined. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit for at least 20 minutes for the flavors to meld.
  2. Coat your hands with a bit of olive oil and evenly divide and shape the mixture into 6 patties- careful not to overwork the meat. Set the patties aside on a foil/parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  3. Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium to medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes until it’s nice and hot. Then coat the pan with oil.
  4. Working in batches, gently place the patties into the hot skillet and cook until the patties achieve a nice, browned sear on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Then transfer the cooked burgers to a clean plate and set aside while you cook the remaining patties. Then let the patties cool for a few minutes before burger assembly.
  5. Toast the buns: Working in batches, smear a bit of butter on each side of the buns and place them into the skillet to toast for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. To serve: Smear caramelized onion jam on each side of the buns. Add the blue cheese turkey patty and finish burger assembly with lettuce and a tomato slice. Enjoy!
