I love me a good rice recipe, y’all. Whether it’s my Cajun Dirty Rice, this vibrant Red Rice, flavorful Arroz con Gandules, or my Jamaican Rice & Peas…ya girl just can’t get enough! I grew up on rice being a major side item, and it has always been a heartwarming staple.

Easy Homemade Fried Rice
Given how much I thoroughly enjoy Asian-style fried rice (and pair it alongside so many of my dishes), I knew I had to share this delicious recipe with you. Listen, homemade fried rice is wildly easy to make at home and truly so incredibly tasty. Minimal ingredients, big-time flavor…let’s get into it!

Ingredients You’ll Need:
(Note: the full ingredients list, including measurements, is provided in the recipe card directly below.)
- Eggs: This fried rice recipe includes eggs.
- Butter: Flavor and fat, yum.
- Peas & Carrots: I typically use store-bought frozen peas + carrots mix.
- Salt & pepper: To season the rice to taste.
- Onion & Garlic: Flavor components that rice needs (imo).
- Cooked white rice: We just can’t make fried rice without it, bloop.
- Scallions: Aromatic deliciousness.
- Soy & Oyster Sauce: Adds deep umami flavor & is essential for fried rice.
- Sesame oil: This subtle nutty fragrance it brings, chefs kiss!

How To Make This Fried Rice Recipe:
(Note: please see the recipe card directly below for the complete written instructions.)
- First, cook the eggs. In a large deep skillet over medium heat, add butter. Once sizzling, add the lightly beaten eggs and stir to combine until briefly scrambled. Then set the scrambled eggs aside on a clean plate.
- Next, sauté the veggies. Add butter to the skillet along with the frozen peas + carrots. Stir the veggies and let them cook for 1-2 minutes. Then add the onion and continue cooking the veggie mixture until the onions are tender and translucent. Add the garlic and continue cooking until the garlic is fragrant.
- Lastly, build the fried rice. Add the remaining bit of butter to the skillet along with the cooked and chilled white rice, scallions, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Toss all ingredients until well combined and evenly distributed. Continue cooking the rice, letting the rice toast and “fry” in the skillet, about 3-4 minutes.
- Then add the reserved scrambled eggs and toss well to incorporate them into the rice. Season with salt/pepper as desired & serve the fried rice immediately…

Serving Your Fried Rice:
Garnish the rice with sliced scallions and serve this dish as-is or with your favorite main entrees. This homemade fried rice is literal perfection alongside my hibachi steak bowls, hibachi chicken bowls, or crispy honey garlic chicken. Ohhhemmmgeeee, peeps! 🔥😋

Tips & Recipe Variations:
- Add protein– For a complete meal, feel free to add the protein of your choice as a mix-in here. Think shredded/chopped chicken, shrimp, or steak! Simply incorporate the pre-cooked protein at the end of the rice cooking time.
- Type of rice to use– I use long grain rice that I cook in my rice cooker (this appliance is one of my top favorites, y’all 👌🏾). You can pre-cook your own rice however you’d like, and then refrigerate (remember, you need to use *chilled* rice for this recipe) or buy pre-cooked rice for one less step.
- Soy sauce alternative– Use coconut aminos.
